This post is dedicated to my friends who are always looking for books to try to satisfy their children's quench for literature.
The School Library asked its readers to list their top 10 books. With 318 responses, they compiled a list of the top 100 children's chapter books. I am humbled. I have only read 10. Some of these have been so long ago, that the ones I highlighted are the ones I am almost certain I have read. The others that are iffy, I left alone. (Update 6-7-10 --- I have read 14 now)

How many have you read? I think I may try to read some this year. Any that you recommend?
67 ... I did not count the ones where I've seen the movie but not read the book.
ReplyDeleteI think I may go back and read the 23 that I've missed! That could be a fun summer project!
I highly recommend #5, #20 and #73!!!
Oh my gosh, Cindy - and to think we lived so close. Yes, I think it WOULD be a fun summer project. I know our librarian spends her summer reading Georgia book award nominee books.
ReplyDeleteI've read 16 of those on this list. I read all of the Llittle House books, the Betsy-Tacy books, and the Ramona books. I loved The Borrowers. The one Nancy Drew book I read is the one on this list; I don't like mysteries so that is why I read only one. I read much more as a child and teenager than I have as an adult--college killed my love of reading for many years.
ReplyDeleteLike Cindy, I loved #73! I need to pick up a few more of these in order to share with the Episcograndkids.
For all of you adults DO read #5!! Those "mixed up files" will take you somewhere you could not imagine in today's world - but when I read it (during my 4th grade year) it was a WONDER of a book!!!
ReplyDeleteHint - it takes place in New York City and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
I have read ALL but 12 of them. I agree with Cindy, #5 is terrific. A few others, Cathy, that you should read: The Dark is Rising, Half Magic (or any Edward Eager book!), All-of-a-Kind-Family, Walk Two Moons, Star Girl, Witch of Blackbird Pond ( I cried buckets when Kit was in trouble) and absolutely, positively read Watsons Go to Birmingham, 1963!! Oh and Maniac McGee..... Oh what the heck, make it a project to read them all!! I just purchased The Wonderful Wizard of Oz for my Kindle, (free!) because that's one on the list I've never read.
